Growing mushrooms at home has never been easier and more accessible than with the all-in-one mushroom growing kit with injection port. These handy kits are perfect for both beginners and experienced growers. They give you the opportunity to grow your own mushrooms in a simple and effective way. Here is a guide on how to use such kits to achieve good results.
What is an All-in-One Mushroom Cultivation Kit?
An all-in-one mushroom growing kit includes everything needed to grow mushrooms at home. The kits come with a bag or container filled with a substrate (growth medium) that has already been sterilized. The injection port makes it easy to inoculate the substrate with spores or liquid mycelium without the risk of contamination.
Step-by-Step guide to using mushroom cultivation kits
-
Preparation
- Find a clean work area to reduce the risk of contamination.
- Wash your hands well and preferably wear gloves.
-
Inoculation of the substrate
- Shake well or mix the spores or liquid mycelium.
- Insert the syringe with inoculum into the injection port on the bag.
- Carefully inject an appropriate amount of fungal spores or liquid mycelium into the substrate, 1-10 ml.
-
Incubation
- Place the bag in a dark room, between 20-24 °C, during the incubation period.
- Check the bag daily/weekly to observe mycelial growth (white threads).
- The incubation period usually varies from 1 to 5 weeks, depending on the type of fungus.
-
The fruiting phase
- When the substrate is fully colonized (covered with mycelium), move the bag to a place with diffused light and a slightly lower temperature, around 15-22 °C.
- Open the bag's top or fruit out of the side of the grow kit, ask for the type of mushroom and its preferences.
- Keep the environment moist by moistening with water daily. Maintain good FAE (Fresh Air Exchange).
-
Harvesting
- After a few days to weeks in the fruiting phase, the mushrooms will begin to appear.
- Harvest the mushrooms when the cap flattens, but has not started to release its spores.
- Carefully wiggle the mushrooms loose from the substrate, or cut them off near the bottom.
Tips for success
- Quality of inoculum : Always use quality spores or liquid mycelium from a reliable source for best results.
- Cleaning and hygienic practices : Maintain good hygienic conditions throughout the process to avoid contaminants.
- Follow-up and adjustments : Monitor growing conditions regularly and make necessary adjustments to light, temperature and humidity to optimize growing conditions.
